Today we left the coast and drove up into the mountains. The day began overcast, but as we climbed up into the Taurus Mountains we left the clouds far
behind and could see snow covered peaks. Stopped at a carpet factory on the way to the hot springs spa town of Pamukkale and the nearby ruins of
Hierapolis. Walked through an extensive ancient cemetery to further Roman ruins; highlights were a large latrine area and a spectacular 12,000-seat Roman
theater. Spent a while walking around (and in) the travertines, natural limestone formations, then adjourned to our hotel, the Colossae, where we
immediately headed to the thermal pools and Turkish bath area. There we soaked in the hot water and had a long conversation about DNA, gene-typing,
migrations and genealogy. Yeah, we're geeks. But we're cute too.
